Fall leaves and the Autumn breeze. What more could you ask for? The beautiful Bankes family attended my Fall Mini Sessions for 2022. Mid-October is, in my opinion, the peak for colorful Fall photography. The bright oranges and comfortable weather is simply perfection.

The boys arrived in cozy flannels, mom came in an earthy-toned maxi dress, and dad wore a nice quarter zip sweater with jeans. This family is a perfect example of color coordination, not matching. This is something I always urge my families to do. Keeping a color scheme without being too matchy allows for a more organic and visually appealing photo.

We began their session at 5:40pm. This allowed for just the right amount of sunlight to peak through from under the trees. For our first set of photos, I positioned them on my favorite little tree stump. I love this spot for a few reasons:

• It offers the opportunity for seating.
• That one tree branch perfectly frames the subject underneath it.
• I love the vibrant colors of the trees in the background.

This spot can get a little tight for families with older children or with more than 2 kids at a time. Because of this, I set the parents on the tree stump and their two boys on the ground in front of them. I also photographed the kids solo shots here. I decided to keep them standing with hands in their pockets, but I could have also photographed them seated as well. I love the variety of this spot.

For our second backdrop, I wanted something a little more simple. We set up a little further down the creek for this classic Fall photo spot. This incorporated some more green colors with the grass and the trees behind them. The boys found some giant leaves on the way over. I noticed the they were playing with them and knew it would be perfect for the photo. I kept them in a basic standing pose and photographed their adorable, cheery smiles. For a close up family shots, I love asking my families to snuggle in and huddle together! To me, this is the kind of photo you want printed on your wall.
