“What do I wear for my senior pics?!”
It’s hands down my most asked question as a senior photographer — and I completely get it. Choosing what to wear to school in the morning is hard enough. Now you’re planning outfits that will be photographed, shared, printed, and remembered for years to come.
The good news? I’ve narrowed it down to six go-to outfit categories that make planning simple and stress-free. If you start here, you’ll walk into your senior session feeling confident and prepared.
Let’s start prepping for your senior photos:
Why Your Senior Photo Outfits Matter
Outfits are the bread and butter of your portraits. They play a huge role in the overall look and feel of your gallery. When your outfits are intentional and well-coordinated, your final images feel cohesive, elevated, and timeless — not trendy or dated.
Following a few simple guidelines will help create a seamless, eye-catching senior gallery that truly reflects you and documents your senior year beautifully.
1. The Little White Dress (Your Graduation Look)
Every senior needs a classic grad outfit.
For girls, this is typically a little white dress. It photographs beautifully, looks amazing with your cap and gown, and gives you that iconic “senior year” look. Think clean, simple, and flattering. This outfit is perfect for more traditional portraits.

2. Cute Top + Denim (Casual & Classic)
You can never go wrong with a cute top paired with your favorite jeans. This look is effortless, fun, and totally you. It’s perfect for relaxed poses, sitting shots, and walking candids.
The key here is fitted but comfortable. Choose something that makes you feel confident and natural.

3. A Long, Flowy Dress (Your Formal Pick)
This is your moment for something a little elevated. A long, flowy dress adds movement and drama to your images — especially during golden hour. Soft fabrics, light movement, and neutral or pastel tones photograph beautifully outdoors.
If dresses aren’t your thing, this could also be a more formal outfit that feels polished and confident.

4. Add a Pop of Color
Even if most of your outfits are neutral, I always recommend including at least one look with a pop of color. This could be:
- A bold dress
- A bright top
- Colorful shoes
- A fun accessory
Color adds variety to your gallery and helps certain images really stand out.

5. Sports or Club Uniform
You’ve worked hard for your accomplishments — let’s document them.
Whether it’s your sports uniform, band outfit, cheer gear, theater costume, or any other club involvement, this is a meaningful way to personalize your session and capture what made your senior year special.

6. Your Cap and Gown
If you’re taking photos in the spring, don’t forget this one.
We’ll pair it with your white dress or a classic outfit underneath for timeless graduation portraits. These are perfect for grad announcements, party decor, and graduation cards.
