Oh how I love a spring family session in May! The trees become full and grass begins to grow tall. I adore the way the grassy fields start to look like meadows this time of year. It’s one of my favorite times to visit the Daniel Boone Homestead in Birdsboro, PA. This historic park was the perfect backdrop for this family’s annual portraits.
This group chose a bright pink and navy blue color palette and incorporated some florals. I love the fun, bright color tones they picked. I’m a big fan of adding color to your outfits. It definitely tied in with the spring feeling.
I stuck with a simple background for these photos. I always want my subjects to be the focal point. A busy background can be distracting. Plus, I didn’t want anything to clash with their vivid outfit colors. I love the way the sun glows behind the trees creating a dreamy landscape.
This background choice also gave us so much room to roam. When it comes to family sessions, I like to keep poses simple with the opportunity for movement. After nailing our picture-perfect family portrait, I prompted a tickle fight for the family of five. This brought out some true giggles and are some of my favorite photos in the gallery. With a longer family session, I always give the parents a chance for photos with each of their children. For these photos, it’s important to capture their personality and the bond between them. I ask the kids to sit on dad’s lap or I’ll ask mom to give her babies a hundred kisses! It’s all about prompting playtime.
My goal is always to leave a session with the kids laughing and running while parents are relieved by how easy this was. This gallery feels so authentic and true to this family. I know these are the kinds of photos they are going to want to hang up and showcase on their walls at home.
