Comparing Professional Photo Prints to CVS Same Day Photo Prints

2/09/23

Have you considered the difference between professional prints and same day print options? I recently ordered some photo prints to decorate my home studio space. I am working on a portfolio collage wall! I wanted to take this opportunity to compare professional prints from my online gallery site to photos from somewhere like CVS.

I chose 2 examples; one is a very warm golden hour photo in a nature setting, while the other has more blue tones from the sunset on the beach. Both photos have subjects with white clothes which will help to compare the print’s white balance. From first glance, the same day print isn’t bad. However, when you hold the two next to each other, there is a clear difference in quality between them. The professional prints are clear, crisp, and true to color. They look exactly how I edited them in Lightroom. On the other hand, the prints from CVS are fuzzy, inconsistent in color, and even patchy in some spots.

In the beach family session you can clearly notice a difference in the sunset’s coloring. It almost adds a pink tone to it. There is also a very apparent blue hue added to their white shirts. For me, this is a deal breaker. Keeping white shades balanced is very important in my editing work. When comparing the couple’s print, I find the differences to be even more noticeable. There is an excess of orange vibrancy to the CVS prints and the wheat grass loses a ton of detail. When looking closely, there is some patchiness on the couple’s skin.

Overall, if you spend your money on a professional photograph like myself for high quality photos, your prints should reflect that. Low quality prints don’t represent the work you’ve invested in. From this comparison, I took note that the same day prints come out very pixelated and are inconsistent with the photo’s true colors. This is an inaccurate representation of your photographer’s work as an experienced editor and their high quality equipment.

There’s no reason not to invest in professional prints- especially when I offer discount codes for print products to all my clients! Book your session now and let’s get some prints on the wall!
