Coventry Woods Preserve

This past holiday season, I was looking for a unique and new location for Christmas photos. I wanted to find a park with real Christmas trees to photograph. After a tough search, I remembered this small local woods preserve close to my home in Douglassville, PA. This little, hidden park in North Coventry was the perfect backdrop for a few holiday photo sessions. The tall pine trees created a little pathway between the two rows of trees. This woodsy vibe was exactly what I was looking for. The simple backdrop really allows the children to be the focal point.

I began this session with the family’s newborn. Despite the chilly winds, she was fast asleep the whole time. I was so happy to snap her portrait very quickly so she could get back in the car to warm up. I love everything about her parent’s styling choices. From her plaid dress to her hair bow, it was so perfect. Just look at her cute little baby hands! The small basket they brought along was a great idea. She was able to stay in her blanket wrapped basket for the entirety of her session. I recommend a similar set up to this one for any outdoor or indoor newborn session.

Next, it was the big kid’s time to shine. As I mentioned, it was freezing that afternoon. The youngest boy took a bit of coaxing to smile for his photos. Luckily, Grandma swooped in with a Roblox game bribery. (It worked!) I went for a simple hand-holding pose for this adorable group. I asked for their best cheeses and then quickly moved on to solo portraits. Their matching flannel outfits are the cutest thing! I really like that both boys matched while their little sister had a dress in the same fabric. I am usually not a huge fan of matching looks, but it’s always fun during the holidays.

These kids were such good sports and I could not be more happy with their gallery. Late December sessions can be tough between the bitter cold and awful winds. I always urge my clients to wear their coats between shots. I would recommend bringing along hand warmers for your pockets and a heated vest, if you have one.
