Berks County Family Photographer
Posing is one of the most important parts of your family photo session. As your Berks County family photographer, I am here to make sure you have this piece covered. It can be hard for our little ones to sit still for a period of time, so I try my best to keep my sessions as fun and interesting as possible. I want your family’s personality to shine through these photos. It is so important to me to make my sessions enjoyable while getting those must-have photos. Over the years, I’ve found prompts and poses for your photo shoot that work for all ages, family sizes, and attention spans.
This list breaks down a few of my favorite poses for family photos. Take a look through and pick out your favorites for your next family photo session.
1. Hold Hands & Walk or Run
This prompt is a favorite of mine for energetic kids. If we need a play break, I love prompting families to hold hands and run towards me. This undoubtably brings out the biggest and most genuine smiles. I usually ask families to run up and down a few times to get the kids tuckered out. When the kids make it to my camera, I like to ask for a couple nice photos just smiling and holding hands.
2. Tickle Fight
If we’re having a hard time bringing the kiddos out of their shell, a tickle fight is my best secret! I always set this photo up wherever I want our “must-have” family photo. I like for this prompt to lead into that main family photo. Once we bring out the smiles, everyone settles down for the perfect family shot.
3. Tip The Teapot
We all know the song, “I’m a Little Tea Pot”. Well, this pose is just that! This is something I like to do for families with younger children. If we are doing a standing pose and mom or dad is holding a little one, I’ll prompt this pose. The basic idea is to, as the song goes, “Tip me over and pour me out”! This is a great candid pose that is bound to make the children smile.
4. Nose Boop
The nose boop is reserved for our smallest children. It is one of the few poses we can do with newborns and a great pose for kids under 2 years old. I love the sweetness and closeness of this shot. Whichever parent is not ‘booping’ their nose will snuggle into their partner with eyes on their baby.
5. Forehead Kiss
A simple forehead kiss is such a sweet pose for parents and their children or sometimes even siblings. This prompt is a must for mommy and me sessions. The forehead kiss is usually paired with a warm embrace and closed eyes. Be prepared for the “awhhh”s come out with this one.

6. Snuggle In
This is my most used prompt for families. Whether you have a big group or small, bring it in and snuggle! This pose doesn’t have to be much. Simply wrap your arms around one another and you’re set. Sometimes I’ll ask families to nuzzle their heads together. If you’re a larger group with extended family, I like to ask everyone to smile and look around at one another for a more candid shot.
7. Kids On Your Shoulder
For children 1 year old and up, this is always a favorite. What kid doesn’t want dad to lift them up onto their shoulders?! This is another one that is guaranteed to bring out either a smile or a fun reaction. It can be a great solo shot with a parent or a fun photo with the whole family.
